- Founded Aug 31,1960 by Lyle and Bea Johnson downtown Willmar on 3rd St.
- 1967 Move to Willmar Industrial Park
- 1972 First addition on north side
- 1975 Sold Welding business to American Welding
- 1975 Started Northern Plating
- 1977 Bob Dols buys 10% of Northern
- 1978 Major Expansion at Willmar
- 1980 Opened Fargo ND and tripled the size in 1981
- 1984 Addition at Willmar
- 1987 Lyle and Bea sell to: Bill Johnson. Scott Johnson, Kay Balk, Bob Dols
- 1989 Northern is featured in Business and Industry Magazine
- 1990 Purchased JMB in Sioux Falls from Bob Bush
- 1993 Purchased Kato Tool Mankato from Don and Becky Hess
- 1996 Northern opens in St. Cloud MN
- 1997 Major remodel at Willmar
- 1998 Oct. Bill and Scott Johnson sell their shares to the Employees (ESOP)
Northern remains an Independent Company
- 1999 Purchased Thread Fast in St. Cloud
- 2000 Installed Carousel in Willmar warehouse fills 200 items per hour
- 2001 Purchased DJ Fastener Duluth MN
- 2001- 2008 Northern honored as a Minnesota Gives Company
- 2005 Open in Bismarck ND
Purchased the Willmar building
- 2006 Northern receives Member of the Year from Evergreen Marketing
- 2006 Moved to large nicer place in St Cloud
- 2006 Purchased a larger location in Mankato on one floor
- 2008 Purchased Fargo building 2008
- 2010 50 years in business
